With its 98 meters, the Skakavac waterfall is the second highest in Europe. The whole area is protected and declared a Monument of Nature, so the ride is a real pleasure and the view of Romania, Jahorina, Trebević, Bjelašnica, Igman and other mountains is unforgettable.

Description

Although located only 8 kilometers from the center of Sarajevo, we like to reach the Skakavac waterfall by bike over the peaks of Crepoljsko (1524 m elevation) and Bukovik (1534 m elevation). The ride starts from the City Hall (Vijecnica) near Miljacka, followed by a climb to the town of Hreša, mostly on asphalt road. Later, there is a gravel road to Crepoljski and Bukovik, from where it is possible to choose an excellent descent on gravel or, if desired, an attractive single trail.

Entering the protected area Skakavac Nature Monument is a unique experience. Wild animals live here freely, so you will also find a sign that warns of the presence of bears. Don't be afraid though, you won't meet him.

From the top to the foot of the Skakavac waterfall there is a well-maintained trail and the 98 meter high hiking section. But the photo below the waterfall is worth the effort, as is the long descent across Nahorevo to the Pionirska dolina Zoo where the tour ends.

Itinerary

Morning:

MTB tour to the Skakavac waterfall starts from the City Hall (Vijecnica) where we gather at 09:00 in the morning.

Midday:

Followed by a climb of about 13 km to the top of Crepoljsko from where there is a unique view of many mountains of BiH, and if it is clear you can even see Durmitor in Montenegro.

Late afternoon:

After visiting the waterfall, there is an attractive gravel road descent to the village of Nahorevo and then we continue further until the end of the tour in the Pionirska dolina Zoo.
