Bukovik

Sarajevo's Ozren is a favorite picnic spot for Sarajevans for several reasons. It is close to the city, the terrain is not technically demanding, and all the natural beauties are at your fingertips. This time we decided on the direction Čavljak - Crepoljsko - Bukovik. Although the terrain is not technically demanding, the tour is 16 km long, so it is necessary to be physically fit.

We left a little later than usual. It had been raining for the past few days so we wanted to make sure that the weather is nice for a pleasant walk. There is a circular road about 4 km long through the forest around Čavljak. So when you head to Bukovik you can choose whether to go left or right from the lodge. Essentially, it doesn't matter, but somehow out of habit we always go to the right, and return to the left. If you are not fit for a 16 km walk, you can just take one turn around Čavljak and enjoy nature.

The weather was beautiful for a walk. A macadam road leads to Crepoljsko, which is in a fairly good condition so that it can be passed by off-road vehicle. Crepoljsko Peak is located right on the road to Bukovik. To visit it you only need to turn a few hundred meters from the main road. We decided to go around the top a bit and climb from its south side so we wouldn’t have to go back the same way.

Crepoljsko with its 1524 m above sea level does not stand out much from its surroundings, but even that was enough for the wind to not let us to stay on top for a long time. We went down the meadow to the other side of Crepoljsko and continued along the same road towards Bukovik. There were quite a few hikers around us who decided to take advantage of this beautiful day. The peak of Bukovik (1534 m above sea level) can be seen all the way and you will most easily recognize it by the antennas for mobile phones and some kind of radar for airplanes. Near the very top you can turn right and pass that part of the road through the forest or continue straight on the road. This turn is marked by a wooden signpost so that it is almost impossible to miss it. Either way, they both end up at the lodge under Bukovik. Those few hundred meters to the top is the only ascent worth mentioning on this tour. Up there we were greeted by the wind again so we descended a little lower down the meadow and took a short break, just enough to eat a sandwich. The return was the same way, except that we did not return via Crepoljsko.

When we arrived at Čavljak, the sun had almost set, and we were left with another day spent in nature.
