We went to Motka 3 years ago from the village Tihovići. It’s one easy tour, with only one stronger climb from the lodge to the top.
This time we decided on this tour because of the bad weather forecast and the strong, stormy wind that was announced, especially in the higher mountains. However, we started on another path, a ridge that starts in Vogošća and leads all the way to the top of Motka.
We climbed the stairs next to a building and were already on the trail. Before we left, it started to rain, but fortunately, it only lasted about 10 minutes, so we almost didn't need raincoats. The trail leads along the edge of the settlement of Blagovac and is not marked. Immediately above Blagovac, you enter the forest and climb the ridge above the village of Tihovići. From there, a country road leads, where you can see the markings from time to time.
At the beginning of that journey, next to one house you may be surprised by a pack of dogs that are not on chains and act quite aggressively. Although they bark a lot and look dangerous, none of them approached us closer than a few meters. However, we all had sticks in our hands, so it is possible that they kept a safe distance because of that. The road further over Mala and Velika Gradina leads all the way to the top of Motka. Along the way we passed two fountains and a decent rest area that can be nicely protected from rain and wind.
This time, the top was much more visible than 3 years ago. Windy, cloudy, but at least it wasn't raining. We continued further, took a lunch break at the PD Planinar lodge, and then took the road towards Tihovići. In the village, in order to avoid a long walk on the asphalt, we turned right between the houses and climbed again on the path we passed this morning.
In this case, when you go towards Motka from Vogošća, this tour becomes a little more serious. About 18km distance and over 900 meters altitude difference made us walk for the last hour with the headlights on.
In the end, the distance and altitude difference are large, but the relatively low altitude and gentle environment do not make the tour particularly demanding.
Motka is definitely a place where nature lovers can enjoy, and are always happy to return.
The trail is suitable for all four seasons. It is not technically demanding and there is no mine danger.
